Congratulations to Mary Sloane who has been selected onto the Connaught Team to competed in the All Ireland U14 girls 3,000 meters Cross Country Championships.
Mary ran a super race at the Connaught Cross Country Championships held on Saturday 05th November in Sligo on an excellent cross country course at the Sligo racecourse. There was a very high standard in this race and Mary was in the leading group throughout and finished strongly to gain selection onto the Connaught team. Mary is now a regular on the Connaught team and is also on the Connaught Development Squad. There are high expectations of this talented Connaught team in the All Ireland Finals at the end of November again at the Sligo racecourse and we wish Mary the very best of luck in the final.
The club had a number of other athletes competing at these championships. Sarah Sloane put in a solid race performance in the under 12 girls 2,000 meters and continues to improve with every race and is just outside the selection for the Connaught team. Niamh Brady ran her first race for the club and can be satisfied with her performance for her first Connaught club race and no doubt will continue to improve. James Kilbane completed in his first race at this level in the boys under 12 2000 meters and it was a real baptism of fire for him. No doubt he will learn from this experience. The club is proud of all the athletes’ performances at these championships.
