John Scott set a new personal best for the marathon on Sunday with an excellent 2:48 in Chicago. Just two weeks after running in Berlin, John made the trip Stateside to line up at another of the Marathon Majors and paced it nicely for his first sub-2:50 clocking. As in Berlin, the streets of Chicago also produced a new world record this time in the men’s race with a swift 2-hour winning time.
The Tarmonbarry road races took place on Sunday with Colin Beades and Anne Brady taking podium place finishes with good performances in the 3/4 marathon. Seamus Murtagh, Stephen McDermott, Caroline Smith, Charlie Barone, Philip Bannister, John Farrell, Maureen Finn and Deirdre Coffey all covered the 19.7 mile distance too in fine form as preparation continued for the Dublin Marathon in 3 weeks’ time.
In the half marathon, Michael O’Hara placed first in his age category with a strong run. A number of members lined up in the 8k in which Ross Gannon was second across the line with Patryk Prusak, Gary Brady and Dermot Washington also top-10. Edel Nolan (1st in age category), Sinead Nolan and Leia Valentine placed in the top-10 in the women’s race setting quick times. Strong running as well by Colm Dooner, Thelma Garvey, Jacqueline Mahon, Carmel Corr, Sandra Donaldson, Eleanor McLoughlin and Marian Dennigan.
Last weekend, Fiona Gettings took first place at the Westmeath Open 4k cross country in Belvedere. Ciarán Madden also topped the podium at the Monaghan Phoenix 10k in 36:13 held mostly on forest trail.
