A busy Easter period of road racing included many club members among the large entry at the Noel McManus Memorial Run on Good Friday. Ben Quinn took the win in the 5k with a brisk 17:36 and was joined on the podium by Donal Mulligan in third. Also completing the distance in good times were Adam Mulleady, Edel Nolan, Shauna & Amy Fallon, Louisa & Sam Ferguson, Colleen Norris, Eoghan Mulligan, Claire Wynne, Eleanor McLoughlin, Emer Farrell, Ursula Beirne, Sean & Ciara McDermott, Marissa Hebron, Siobhan Reynolds, Marian Dennigan, Ann O’Brien and Ian Marshall.
On a hilly 10k course, Sinead Nolan placed third in 43:53 with John Farrell, Colm Dooner, Deirdre Coffey, Jacqueline Mahon and Thelma Garvey also all running excellent times in crossing the finish line well under the hour.
Less than a week after his 2:56 at the Westport Marathon, John Scott showed no fatigue coming third in the half marathon with a strong 1:23.
Good runs as well by Dermot Washington, Stephen McDermott and Maureen Fallon over the 21.1k distance under blue Leitrim skies.
On Friday evening, Roscommon Harriers hosted the first of its four-race April series of 5k races with Julie and Sarah Taitt as well as Martin Monaghan each running very well. Julie and Sarah were the first two finishers in the junior girls category.
It was to north Longford on Saturday afternoon for the Granard Easter Festival 5k. A race of two halves as the fast opening section was followed by a gruelling run for home. Making it up the hill first was Fiona Gettings taking the honours as first finisher overall.
For Fiona it was her second race in less than 48 hours as on Thursday evening she notched up another quality run with a top-ten finish at the Streets of Kilkenny 5k. Running an excellent 17:19, Fiona was one of almost 300 finishers under 20 minutes at an event of very high standard.
Super running by our club members this week – a well-deserved Easter egg today is just reward! Happy Easter to all!
