Juvenile Track and Field Championships – Children’s Team Games
Tullamore Harriers hosted the final day of the Juvenile Track and Field Championships and also the Children’s Team Games on Saturday last. Wet conditions early on fortunately gave way to a pleasant afternoon which led to some great competition. Jack O’Farrell, having earlier qualified from his heat of the u13 60m hurdles, showed excellent technique to place fifth in the final. Sophia Carey performed well in a competitive u12 600m for eighth. Oisín Dillon had a busy afternoon after having twice ran in the 60m to reach the final, he lined up in the 600m which started at a fast pace. In contention for bronze approaching the final bend, Oisín just missed out but raced well against strong opposition.
In the Team Games, John Fitzpatrick and Setanta Smith were unlucky not to medal in the u11 pairs turbo javelin following some good throwing. The duo then ran strongly in the 600m to place well in high quality races. Andrew Fitzpatrick and Dáire Grealy were to both participate in the u9 turbo javelin. Despite travelling, Dáire was unfortunately unable to take part but Andrew competed and his best effort was the furthest in the age category.
