Cross Country
It was to Roscommon on Sunday last as the Racecourse hosted the final day of the Connacht Cross Country with it being the turn of the Juvenile Uneven Ages and the last round of the Senior League.
An outstanding run by Oran O’Neill was the club’s highlight with placing second of 110 boys in the Under-11 1500m. A super performance by Oran in the biggest race of the day to win a silver medal and secure a place at December’s National finals in Tramore.
Julie Taitt, Ella Finnegan and Molly Murphy each ran very well in the U13 girls 2500m with Julie’s seventh place booking her spot at Nationals. A strong run by Rian McCaffrey saw him fifth in the U15 boys 3500m to achieve a qualifying spot. A great effort too by Daniel Higgins who finished just outside the top-12.
Emma Brennan and Robin Og Murphy showed their strength also with both inside the qualifying places in the U17 girls 4500m. Dylan Ledwith paced it nicely over the same distance in the U17 boys race to book his place with Max Gallagher running well for a top-20 finish.
The men’s 6000m saw Barry Sheil cross the line sixth overall which was enough to win a silver medal in the Masters category over the 3-race league series.
New York Marathon
John Scott made the trip to New York for Sunday’s marathon and was rewarded with another strong performance over the 26.2-mile distance. As ever, he paced it well crossing the line in a time of 2:54. It was John’s fifth of the World Marathon Majors completed in leaving Boston remaining on his Six Star Journey.
