Results
The opening evening of the series saw 121 participants for the Royal Canal 5k. Thanks to all that took part and helped out. Great to see many fine performances by club members, both juvenile and senior, including an excellent 18:39 by 12-year-old Rian McCaffrey for fifth place overall.
On Friday evening, Fiona Gettings recorded another superb run with a second place at the Streets of Athboy 5k in 17:23.
Barry Sheil and Paddy Sharkey both achieved top-10 finishes at the Kilbeggan 10 mile on Sunday with Barry third in 53:13 and Paddy clocking 56:21 for ninth.
Couch to 5k
A beginners 8-week Couch to 5k programme began on Tuesday 9 August at the Mall from 7.30pm. Participants are provided with a programme along with support and advice to help build fitness in a fun way. New members welcome. Registration information is on the Longford Sports Partnership Facebook page.
Longford Minors
Hard luck to the Longford minor footballers, including club members Sián Gallagher, Funmi Talabi and Caoimhe Crossan, on their defeat in last week’s All-Ireland final. Sián put in a player of the match performance scoring 2-1 from midfield.
Community Games
Best wishes to all the Longford athletes taking part at the Community Games National finals in Carlow on Saturday.
